Joseph J. Mooney, a WWII veteran, and Columbus native Mary, from Belmont County Ohio, moved to Columbus with their military background in the early 1940s to establish Columbus Pest Control in 1946. Joe soon learned that joining the two associations was advantageous. The National Pest Control Association (Ohio Pest Control Association) and Columbus Pest Control Association. Joe was active in the National Pest Control Association for many years, serving in many capacities. He was the National Pest Control Association President in 1958. Columbus Pest Control served much of Ohio in its early years.
Joe worked for the National Pest Control Association, where he met Cuban pest control entrepreneur Orlando Alonso. Joe and Orlando became business partners and friends through several ventures in Cuba. Both families left Cuba after the communist takeover, and US-Cuba government relations began in January 1961. The Alonso family spent three months in New York City before moving to Columbus, where Orlando joined Columbus Pest Control as a termite technician.
Joe Mooney and Orlando Alonso worked together to establish the company on service, reputation, and knowledge after Joe's death in 1969. Columbus Pest Control was purchased by Joe's widow, Mary. Joe's coaching and experience enabled Orlando to get involved in the Ohio Pest Control Association. Orlando served as President in 1976. The Ohio Pesticide Law, active today, was created with Orlando's help.
Lonnie, Orlando's little brother, practically grew up at Columbus Pest Control. When he got his Ohio Department of Agriculture Commercial Applicator license, Lonnie started working with his father. Lonnie, his sons Brian (and Andrew), and their employees oversee the third generation of a family-owned business. Their mission is to serve the loyal customers with dependable and environmentally safe pest control services. Each Technician is fully licensed and trained to meet the residential and commercial pest control needs of the clients.
Columbus Pest Control, accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 1958, has a reputation for excellence. The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Lonnie has been a trustee for 25 years on the Central Ohio Better Business Bureau board, governmental agencies, service groups, community organizations, schools, and religions.
